Items to avoid in air transport

The Internet, its brands and ads that make you want to buy... If you live on the other side of the world, you are often tempted to make your dreams come true... And to fall for that nice bike from Décathlon or that magnificent buffet from Maisons du monde. Problem: they don't deliver to your home from France and the shipping costs by air are exorbitant...

To avoid falling into this trap, we have prepared a list of items to avoid when reshipping packages with Easy Delivery.

Air transport: volumetric weight, how does it work?

If you are a regular parcel forwarder, you must surely know the volumetric weight (or taxable weight).

It is a formula that will allow to define in part the transport costs of a package. It is calculated as follows: length x width x height / 5000.

The transport rate is therefore composed of the actual weight of the package as well as its volumetric weight. And that's exactly what you have to pay attention to!

With the volumetric weight, the larger the package, the higher the transport price.

So, if your package weighs 5kg but its volumetric weight is 15kg, you pay for those 15kg. In other words, it is better to avoid having a ladder or a mirror sent back!

After this reminder, let's move on to the items to avoid when reshipping packages 😉

Items to avoid when forwarding a package

In addition to the prohibited items. There are also objects to avoid because they are too big or too fragile. Here is a non-exhaustive list that we have compiled from our experiences.

Items that are too large and have a very high volumetric weight
  • Furniture (yes, even Ikea!) or sofas
  • Household appliances
  • Bikes
  • Carpet
  • Office chairs
  • Comforters and pillows: light in real weight but bulky
  • Sports machine
  • Tables
  • Tires
  • Car parts that are too large, such as windshields

Fragile items
  • Tableware
  • Sculptures and other ceramic objects
  • Glass decoration

How can I still receive these items?

While it is not recommended to fly these items, there is a way to receive them. For larger items, ocean freight will save your life! You will be able to furnish your entire home with no problem or bring in the workout equipment of your dreams. In addition, sea freight is often much cheaper than air freight (although it takes much longer).

To offer the services of a sea freight forwarder, consider looking at the agencies making the connection between France and the destination of your choice. Do not hesitate to contact them to know the specificities and the rates.

If you have any questions or doubts about the transportability of your items, our customer support is at your disposal!
